Queen Hippie Finds Her Tribe, and so we stop awhile...
I kid you not.
It was like stepping back into 1969, and who cannot love it when a whole town has a covenant to uphold World Peace as it's raison d'etre.
MPJ was in Heaven: wholefoods everywhere, everyone recycles, there is kindness and conversation everywhere you go, great coffee shops and delicious restaurants - it's Vashon on steroids!
And what makes both places so special is - they just are.
Nothing pretentious, just good people living in community, caring, taking care of each other, lots of music and theatre and lots and lots and lots of smiling.
Slowed pace that reminds us that we are living much faster than we are actually built for. Sebastopol feels like the pace of life as it SHOULD be.
Well, we kinda needed to slow to a stop.
MPJ was so traumatised by those Precipitous Drives that she actually made an appointment to see a PTSD counsellor.
I kid you not.
Having a panic attack behind the wheel on a winding clifftop road deserves some attention, wouldn't you say?
I'm so glad she decided to take me with her!
Turns out MPJ also has Basophobia - Fear of Falling.
Across 2 sessions with Susan, they uncovered several traumas from her past that relate to being on a cliff-edge, forgotten memories that were badly triggered by our precipitous drives.
Did you know that Mt Baker has the most snowfall of any mountain in America?
Then there was a drive up Idaho Peak in the Kootney Mountains of British Columbia.
But, here is the REAL REASON that MPJ has basophobia...
In the White Family parlance we refer to this incident as 'Stockholm Syndrome', though it has nothing to do with falling in love with your kidnappers. In this case it has everything to do with falling out of the sky on something called the 'Fritt Fall Tilt'...
Genuine shock. Genuine Fear. Genuine Trauma. This was definitely NOT a fun ride.
My poor sweet Pet, I had no idea all this was in her past.
I am so grateful we could find the right kind of help to sort out why she panicked.
Frankly, I do NOT ever want to be with her in that state again. and we are still MILES from Los Angeles, there is still a lot of Hwy 1 between here and there.
We are so never going to amusement parks on the Charity Drive!
By all means 'Invite Us Forward',
but NOT if it involves any sort of fall-from-the-sky ride.
So here we are, all these years later, sitting in Susan's office, and digging out these precipice memories, coupled with a true knowledge of what it means to fall 80 meters out of the sky - well no wonder the girl is traumatised!!!
No wonder the effort to draw down her fear using my doggie absorption powers has affected me too!
Thank goodness we found Susan and could use EMDR to reprogramme the neural pathways to help take away this FEAR, and take away the PSTD.
EMDR really works!
MPJ is so impressed that she now wants to train to become a practitioner.
I just know that she feels completely different, which means my doggie radar makes me also feel completely different.
From agitation we have gone to peaceful.
Must have something to do with Sebastopol truly being 'Peacetown'.
Now if only we could say the same for dear old Bartholomew Cubbins...
