The Gravenstein Apple Fair
The 44th Annual Gravenstein Apple Fair
This year - Celebrating Bees
(every year there is a new commemorative poster)
Well, this is one experience that I was not allowed to take part in.
No dogs allowed.
So I'll have to share vicariously through MPJ's photos, and her usual over-enthusiastic delight at all things rural/homemade/hippie dippie save-the-world wonderful.
Though, truth be told, you cannot get better than a feeling of stepping back in time to a world that celebrates the Harvest, drawing on all the strengths of what community really means.
MPJ was so happy to spend the whole afternoon enjoying all the sites and sounds and entertainments of a down home honest-to-goodness old-fashioned Country Fair!
Celebrating all things Apple!
Caramel apple-eating contest!
Kids pie-eating contest!
Adult apple-juggling contest!
'In Praise of Pollinators'
The theme of this years Apple Fair is close to MPJ's heart.
She and the Wasband kept bees for many years,
and Jani had a great time chatting with the Sononma County Beekeepers Assoc,
talking all about the importance of encouraging people to keep bees
- they are the essential insect to our future survival as a planet.
In the craft area, making mosaics from beans and lentils and rice...
Laughing out loud, on the maze instead of in it....
So grateful for modern day washing machines...
Llamas and Alpacas - as you do...
Altogether, it's everything a country fair should be!
Right down to the snake charmer, the old fashioned tractor display, and the local beer - Lagunitas Brewery is just down the road. Happy Jani.
Altogether a Fabulous day out - Thank Goodness for the parasol.
It was that sultry height-of-summer kind of hot.
That school holidays feeling.
The burble of happy people, much laughter, everyone, literally Everyone,
absolutely enjoying themselves.
We love this town.
