Back on the road again!
Do NOT sing the Willie Nelson song.
Not at all.
After our long and wonderful sojourn in Sebastopol, we are back on our mission to reach Los Angeles...
On to the 101, making a beeline for... The Golden Gate Bridge!!!
Successful PTSD treatment, thus we braved another precipitous road just to show the view of where we are going...
Egads, this California Coast is just one long cliff-side.
Ohh sweet MPJ, how ridiculously over-excited is she!
Welcome to Southern California!
It was a lovely long drift down the coast, overnight in Santa Cruz, yet ANOTHER classic American seats-at-the-counter diner breakfast (MPJ is a sucker for this iconic Americana), followed by a short hop...
... to Monteray (overpriced!) and Carmel-By-The-Sea (where we got seriously lost looking for Clint Eastwood's ranch)...
Just outside of Carmel, MPJ seriously considered driving to Big Sur, which at the beginning of this Road Trip had been one of the top 3 goals of the journey.
HOWEVER, due to the landslide it would entail a 60 mile there-and-back trip.
To give the girl some credit, she set off down the road to Big Sur, and 4 miles down the track as her heart started accelerating, she decided no matter how cured of the PTSD she may be - was there any reason to risk setting it off again??
So with a quick about face we headed back towards Salinas and the 101 and continued on our quest to get to LA. (All the while MPJ muttering there be another chance to do this road - ideally with someone else driving)...
... Arrrggghhh, even though we actually bypassed Salinas, I still had to listen to Me & (Bloody) Bobby Magee a hundred times. Sheesh. What is this? Some kind of soundtrack in a film?
Personally I prefer Pink's version, though Janis will always be the Queen.
More long long dusty roads through agricultural California, spotting the first sign showing us how many miles to LA!!! (294), and then overnight in Paso Robles...
... followed by a long long steamy hot stretch to the haven of Pascale's Kitchen in Santa Barbara.
Ahhh Pascale - what a wonderful woman! I know adoration when I see it, and here be a truly doggie-person. I officially adopt her.
Pascale is a family friend of the 'danced at each other's weddings, she's godmother to one of Rob & Jani's sons, and they are godparents to her daughter' variety.
It's a First Family kind of thing.
Enter stage left - our Santa Barbara sojourn...
Meet Sasha, the Labradoodle with the most-est. And MAN, was it ever HOT walking in those Santa Barbra Hills. Dry and dusty and nary a stream to be found, just dried up beds and MPJ on rattlesnake alert. These were not the most relaxing walks ever.
